Master of Fine Arts is the official title that graduates of the Fine Arts department receive upon successful completion of their studies at the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design. The academic title Master of Fine Arts marks a threshold, is both the end and the beginning of a future, which is associated with uncertainties and oscillates between self-employment as a freelance artist to a traineeship, the classic entry into a teaching career.

The first steps after university are a challenge, especially for freelance visual artists it requires completely new qualities, especially that of self-presentation and marketing of the artistic work, in order to achieve economic and financial independence in the long term and thus a basis for existence for artistic practice. The presence of the artistic work through continuous exhibition activity and the development of a resilient network of collaborators is essential. Building a public audience and making a name for yourself in the truest sense often takes a long time.

This year's MFA exhibition 2023 supports the graduates in this endeavour and brings together 15 artistic positions. It deliberately takes place in a rhizomatous manner in three different locations in Kiel's city center. Starting from the official exhibition space of the Muthesius Kunsthochschule spce, currently vacant rooms at Flämische Straße 6-10 and Fabrikstraße 12 are temporarily taken over and activated through art.

Lecturers in subject areas are the following

  1. Prof. Andreas Greiner (Media Arts)
  2. Prof. Almut Linde (Interdisciplinary Artistic Practice)
  3. Prof. Axel Loytved (Artistic Fundamentals)
  4. Prof. Antje Majewski (Painting)
  5. Prof. Isa Melsheimer (Fine Arts and Ceramics)
  6. Prof. Piotr Nathan (Free Drawing and Print Graphics)
  7. Prof. Stephan Sachs (Film / Time-Based Media)
